The Windows 95 Shortcut Page
This page will hopefully contain useful tips about Windows '95 from a variety of sources. If you have a shortcut or a tip for Windows '95 please mail me and let me add it to the page. Many thanks to all those who have contributed so far.
1.Here's a really handy one to avoid having to run System Agent or manually work through Scandisk and Defrag for all your drives. Using Notepad or another text editor create the following file and save on your desktop as SCANFRAG.BAT.
Start /w Scandisk /all /n
Start Defrag /all /f /noprompt
To run a full defrag and scandisk on all drives / partitions simply double click the file and away it goes. All you have to do is click close for Scandisk after it finishes each disk.
2.To quickly change the name of a file in Win 95, click it once to highlight it and then press F2 to alter the name.
3.To add items to the start bar just drag their icon onto it and they'll appear.
4.Right click on the desktop and choose properties to alter the way your display is set up.
5.To find files fast just press F3 for the find box when the desktop is active.
6.To open a document with a program other than it's default hold down Shift and Right click on the Document, then select Open With and choose the program you want to view the file with.
7.You can paste shortcuts from the desktop into Wordpad, Select the link you want and press Ctrl C to copy it. Open wordpad and press Ctrl V to paste it in. To view the link double click on it from WordPad.
8.Shortcuts for Cut, Copy and Paste using the Clipboard are as follows.
Cut Ctrl X.
Copy Ctrl C.
Paste Ctrl V.
