General Information
Bournemouth is best classified as a 'new' university since
it's status was only granted in 1992. The courses available are
largely vocational, geared to commerce and industry and a large
proportion of the students are 'placed' in their relevant field
of interest for a years experience. On campus everything is
portrayed as modern, from the buildings to the courses, the
students union to the computers.
Location
The University is arguably the best place in England to study at
in terms of the surrounding environment.Close by are a number of
coastal resorts aswell as Bournemouth itself, such as: Poole,
Sandbanks, Swanage and Weymouth. The New Forest is also not far
away, and worth a visit with a tent and many beers.
Nightlife
The social scene at Bournemouth is lively but expensive, due to
the Holiday season prices. There are plenty of clubs, big and
small nearby.Infact the South's largest nightclub 'The Venue' is
in Poole. The students most comon clubs are 'The Zoo/Cage' and the
'Palace'.Visit Pauls "good
pub guide".BE WARNED: When staggering about at
2am pissed as a fart, do not attempt to break-in to any Beach
huts like one poor old sod who I don't care to mention. This is
because they have the dogs bollocks closed circuit T.V
system.oooopppppps!!
Kebabs
Probably the best known Kebab House in Bournemouth is 'Ali
Baba's'situated in the Triangle. However real Kebab munchers
would argue whether or not it deserves the highest accollade:
"The Mother of all Greasy Kebabs"(points awarded for
the amount of lard in a kebab). The "Kebab King" has
apparently been known to fill plastic bags full of spare meat if
you require (thanks Matt, for that valuable gem of information).
Students
Best summed up as: White, middle class and daddies paying the
bills. A high proportion of BMW's in the student car park. Not
exactly abundant with different regional dialect, as high
percentage come from Dorset or surrounding counties. However it is
not as potentious as it might seem, especially when considering a
University like Bristol for example!(sorry Bristol).
